Hello and welcome to hapticles®

My name is Sandra, I am the owner, designer and maker of hapticles®.
I have been drawing, painting and making things using various materials and techniques since my days in Kindergarten. Instead of playing with my dolls, I made clothes for them. Instead of playing dressing up with the other kids, I sat down to draw. At home, I would draw or craft things too. To this day I love using clay, metal, wood and other modelling materials. I also loved looking at the jewellery in the watch maker's shop window and would occasionally go in and ask to have a look at the jewellery displays.

Inevitably, I became an artist, mainly working in concrete, clay and up-cycled metals. My sculptures are all very tactile but also have elements of movement in them to provide a more complex haptic stimulation. With these sculptures that are often intuitive forms both functional or non-functional, I want to trigger positive emotions in the beholder. When we touch textures and surfaces that evoke a pleasant sensation or a positive reaction that also helps us refocus and calm, then this evidently has a beneficial impact on our health. Positive emotions can help reduce inflammatory processes in our body.

The jewellery items in my shop I create from the same materials. I see them both as mini sculptures and valuable co-products of my larger work. From my tactile jewellery creations, I draw information that I can then apply to my sculpture work. And, very importantly, I received positive feedback from my customers when they receive a unique, original handmade piece from me.

When I started to explore concrete for sculpting, I created hand sized stones that would act as palm stones, fidget stones, meditation stones or mindfulness stones due to their organic, smooth, cool and overall haptic properties. I called them hapticles and had this name branded.

I wanted to make and sell feel good jewellery, because I had learned that positive emotions daily are good for us. And hell did I need everything that benefitted my health. Since I had committed to my art and creative work, my Multiple Sclerosis had somewhat improved. After all, I was doing something that made me happy every day! Plus, now I had the Jewellery that I liked wearing. And I knew, no one else would have the same thing!

Who doesn’t know the feeling? Looking for something in particular but can only find the generic items and designs that are apparently trendy? I frequently had this problem and then started to make my own necklaces from beads in the right colour, length and with the materials I liked rather than desperately shopping around forever. Finally in 2019 I set up camp here on Etsy. I wondered if there were any other people having the same issue with mass produced, soulless items that have little uniqueness to them.

Here I offer the jewellery and accessories that I initially would make for myself or would buy myself – Original, timeless, elegant, a bit quirky, a bit chic and a bit arty – crafted with passion – if I could find a shop that sells it, that is…

I make one prototype and test it. Does it wear well? Is it comfortable? Does the design make sense? Is it not pretty but beautiful? Will it last? Of course, it was and still is a learning curve and that’s why I appreciate all the customer feedback I can get - and not just the compliments… – to further improve and be pushed and challenged by my clients’ requests for customised items.

If you are looking for that kind of products, you have certainly found your place here!

For me, there is little more rewarding than sending out a lovey wrapped order with an item that I am proud of and a happy buyer at the other end!

Stay well and see you soon!
Sandra x

PS.: ... yes, I'm as much a scientist experimenting with patina as I am a sculptor experimenting with concrete as I am a metal smith and jewellery maker. I should probably prioritise but I'm not sure yet as I am passionate about everything I do. So no, I cannot show you my dedicated workshop space where I make the pieces I am offering to you here in my Etsy space. What I would show you is just a my, what I call, creative chaos multifunctional utility room... My family call it a nightmare. But who wants to see that??? You get the picture ;)
